May 2025 Monthly Craft Report

I tried to be pretty diligent about getting crafting time in this month for multiple reasons.  One is that crafting is what calms me down.  Another is I need to craft to have things to write about on this website.  Yet another is I really wanted to enter as many projects as possible in to our county fair, so I tried to get more done.

What I finished

I didn’t finish any projects in May so I’m going to discuss ones I finished in April.  My last craft report was quite a while ago but I won’t go all the way back to that one.

Sha-zam cowl

Naturally finished it after winter was mostly over

I finally finished my Sha-zam cowl in early April.  It’s made with Malabrigo Rios yarn that I picked up from the Clay Purl.  I’m not totally sure, but I think it’s the Chameleon colorway.  I really like this yarn because it’s very soft and squishy.  The project itself was fun because I got to use one of my row counters and several of my nicer stitch markers to make it.

Fiore washcloth

Finished fair isle style Fiore washcloth lies on a wooden deck

I finished this in late April. I used Knit Picks/WeCrochet Dishie yarn (affiliate link) to make the washcloth (affiliate link, free pattern)  This was a complicated pattern since I’m not used to Fair Isle projects.  Something was up with my tension towards the end (it was started on the outside) because it ended up kind of sticking up in the middle.  Also the solid color was actually part of the multi color scheme so some of the multi color yarn blended in to the solid color.  Overall, though, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Progress I made

Teenage Kicks socks

May monthly craft report socks progress, has a picture of a sock in progress on DPNs with a hanging row counter
Sock #1 progress

These socks (affiliate link, free pattern) are being made with Knit Picks Felici yarn (affiliate link), Countess colorway (they don’t make that colorway anymore).  I had to tear out heel and restart it because I messed up the gusset and the start of the heel.  I still messed up the heel some, but it doesn’t look too bad right now so I’m leaving it alone this time.

Frabjous Faded shawl

Pink shawl in progress lays on a wooden deck

I got this pattern with a pack of yarn from the Clay Purl. I don’t quite remember the colorway, but I think it’s this one. I’d had my eye on buying one of these color packs for a while. I was pretty happy when I could finally get it.

Just like the socks, this project was also giving me trouble.  I had to tear out a part to get a hole fixed.  I’m still fairly new to knitting so it was pretty stressful trying to restart that section.  I’m looking forward to seeing the color gradient part of things when I’m done.

Market Day Cardigan

Close up of what little I have of the collar done (I’m using a sparkly yarn)

I’ve had the squares for this project done for about a year now.  I’m getting to the edging now.  At first I did it with plain black yarn but I ended up tearing that out.  I re-did the edging with the sparkly black yarn I’m going to be using on the collar and hem.

I started this project to test out the all in one granny square yarn.  I’m not really impressed with it because I had to re-do most of the squares as I was working them to get the colors to line up on each row.  I spent so much time doing that I might as well have been weaving in ends.

New projects I started

Budding Romance shawl

Not a lot of progress so a pretty zoomed in shot

I started this shawl in late April. I’ve only gotten a few rows done so far. I hope to have this done by September so I can wear it to the Downton Abbey movie premiere.

Hue Shift afghan

Forest green yarn and a part of a knitted afghan square is laying on a wooden deck, you can see the circular needle cable running through the active row
Progress on the very first square of the afghan

I started this afghan in mid-May. (affiliate link, free pattern) The jewel colorway is the one that my husband and I picked. I got two skeins each of the colors to make sure I had enough to complete the afghan. If you get the kit (I didn’t) you only get one skein of each and you have to be careful not to take too much yarn, according to the Knit Picks website.

Full disclosure: I didn’t pay for this pattern as I was able to get it for free during two of their freebie events. The second one was the pattern that was updated to include a different weight of the yarn. I did pay for the yarn.

Plan for June 2025

In June I’m going to keep going with trying to finish more projects.  I’ve fallen a bit behind the goal I set for myself of completing twenty-four craft projects this year.  I would need to finish five projects to be completely caught up, but only three if I spread out the projects
